It is convenient to grind just the amount you need each time you make your expresso. The product performs as advertised. Consequently your drink is fresh and flavorful.
I've bought another for work, another for my mother, and given one to a good friend who had a MUCH earlier model that was a little messier than this one. It spends 95% of its days grinding drip, but has certainly been put through the full range of its French press --> espresso capability. I couldn't ask for more. I bought one of these off a recommendation from a friend who is a roastmaster at a local bean store. It has met every expectation of mine. The hopper is capacious, cleanup is simple, and the time is reliable.
If you follow the 20-25 seconds rule for extraction time, forget about purchasing this item. This machine does not produce a grind fine enough for expresso machines like the Rancilio Silvia (mine). The coffee will come out the portafilter way too fast.
It was not very noisy, gave a consistent grind and was not messy. I liked this grinder. Unfortunately it stopped working after about three months of use.
Best features are that it grinds evenly, is quiet, looks good and has a fairly compact footprint. One other thing, because it's plastic, the ground coffee clings to the exterior (static electricity), so there is always coffee bean "dust" around the grinder unless you wipe up after every grind. There are just numbers that seem to equate to time that the grinder runs. I imagine every grinder has this problem. This grinder grinds the beans evenly and is reasonably quiet.
All in all, as grinders go, we like this one a lot and would purchase it again. It keeps running after the hopper is empty unless you turn the dial to zero. It is easy to fill and to empty. We've been using this grinder for about 6 mos now after having one of those Grind and Brew combo things that we always hated. The only negatives are that it takes some guesswork to figure out what setting to put the grinder on.
Who has time for that.
